Ahead of National Volunteer Week (18 to 24 May 2026), Basketball Australia asked the basketball community to recognise the people who keep the game going.
It named coaches, team managers, scorers, committee members, canteen volunteers and game-day helpers, and called volunteers the backbone of the sport.
The Australian Sports Commission's Volunteer Map was back for 2026. Any sport volunteer aged 18 and over could be recognised, whether they had given decades to the game or just helped out on weekends. The steps were to visit the map, add yourself or nominate a volunteer, and share their story.
